Evaluation of different pulse crop varieties under foot hill conditions of Arunachal Pradesh

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out in East Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh to evaluate the performance of different Pulse crop (field pea, cowpea and green gram) varieties during growing season of 2015 to 2017. The data of two years’ experiment revealed that the phenological characters, yield attributing characters and seed yield of pulse varieties varied significantly during both the year of experimentation. Among the eight field pea varieties studied, by accounting higher yield attributing characters, field pea variety Vikash gave the highest seed yield (8.12 and 5.69 q ha-1) during 1st and 2nd year, respectively and matures in 76 days. Variety IPL 2-3 and Samrat of mungbean were early maturing type. Among all the tested varieties, Samrat gave the highest mean seed yield (2.26 q ha-1). Cowpea variety PL-5 took 59 days was early maturing type while RC-101 (91 days) was late maturing type. Cowpea variety PL-3 produced highest mean seed yield (8.27 q ha-1) by accounting higher yield attributing characters viz more number of seeds pod-1 and higher seed index was closely associated with PL-5 and PL-2.On the basis of yield, yield attributing characters and phenological characters, variety Vikash of field pea, Samrat of mungbean and of PL-3 of cowpea were found to be promising for cultivation in foot hill conditions of Arunachal Pradesh.
