The influence of agrotechniques viz., plant geometries, genotypes and nipping on yield attributes and yield of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) grown under organic environment was examined in a field trial conducted organically at Students’ Instructional Farm of C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) during rabi 2011-12 and 2012-13 under irrigated conditions. The results of the experiment indicated that the yield contributing parameters viz., pods plant-1, seeds pod-1, pod weight plant-1, grain weight plant- 1 and 100-seed weight were significantly maximum at a spacing of 45 cm apart which were remained at par with 60 cm over closer row spacing i.e. 30 cm. Similarly, average grain yield (2178 kg ha-1) was also significantly maximum at a spacing of 45 cm over 30 cm but it was remained at par with 60 cm. Among the parameters studied, yield attributes and yield of chickpea appeared statistically significant across nipping methods and row spacing. However, number of seeds pod-1 remained at par. Chickpea variety ‘KGD-1168’ recorded higher values of yields and yield attributes over variety ‘KPG 59’. The research concluded that wider row spacing along with nipping is a profitable agrotechnique for chickpea growers.
