Abstract

In nature a number of mutual association relations are found in which both the partners gets benefit of each other. One such example of an amazing association which is found to exist amongst all the terrestrial ecosystems is Mycorrhiza in which the roots of the higher plants show symbiosis with obligate fungi. The association is one of the most diverse as it helps the plants in many ways in an ecofriendly way possible. The AMF has a positive and significant contribution towards plant growth and yield and also maintains the soil parameters. They are an eco-friendly substitute to the chemical fertilizers in maintaining and better performance of agricultural ecosystems and also help the plant in combating the toxic elements present in soil rhizosphere. The present review highlights on the beneficial effects of mycorrhiza on plants by making it tolerant to the biotic and abiotic stresses and maintaining the soil health side by side.
