Abstract

When plants are attacked by pathogens, they defend themselves with various defense responses which involve physical, biochemical and transcriptional barriers. Plants interaction with pathogens results in activation of defense signaling cascades and produces various defense-related proteins like peroxidase, ß-1, 3-glucanase, chitinase, phenylalanine ammonia lyase and polyphenol oxidase are produced to defend the attack. This review briefly explains the role of enzymes in plant defense against phytopathogens.
