Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the summer season of 2018 at Post Graduate Instructional Farm, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, to study the effect of foliar application of potassium on growth and yield of summer greengram (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek). The trial was laid out in randomized block design with 8 treatments replicated thrice with foliar sprays of potassic fertilizers viz., potassium nitrate, potassium sulphate, potassium chloride at 0.5% and 1% concentration of each at flowering stage. Application of foliar spray 1% potassium nitrate at flowering stage to summer greengram along with recommended dose of fertilizer (20:40:00 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1) recorded significantly higher growth parameters viz., plant height, plant spread, number of branches plant-1 and dry matter accumulation plant-1 and yield contributing characters such as number of clusters plant-1, length of pod, number of seeds pod-1, weight of seeds plant-1 and seed yield than rest of the treatments. Hence application of 1% potassium nitrate at flowering stage along with recommended dose of fertilizer (20:40:00 kg N:P2O5: K2O ha-1) to greengram found beneficial to achieve higher growth parameters and yield attributes during summer season.
