Abstract

The preliminary phytochemical analysis of the leaves, stem, flowers and root of Datura metel showed the presence of alkaloids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids and tannins. Phytochemical analysis gave positive results for alkaloids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids and tannins. Positive results for saponins are obtained in some parts of the D. metel extracts of both the solvents. Total phenolic content (TPC) of D. metel plant part was found to be high in 70% ethanol as compared to distilled water. TPC was high in aqueous and ethanol extract of flower followed by leaves, stem and root.
