Study of soil fertility status of soil under intensive cultivation system of Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, India

Abstract

A study for evaluation of soil fertility was conducted in four districts of the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh during 2020-21. Composite soil samples were collected from the farmers who practiced multiple cropping systems. The soil samples were processed and analyzed with the standard protocols. Irrespective of the districts, results revealed that the majority of soils were clay loam (8 villages) in texture; pH was neutral, while electrical conductivity indicated the non-saline of soils. Nutrient index rating indicated that the soils were low in available nitrogen, medium for available organic carbon exchangeable potassium and sulphur, and high in available phosphorus. The status of micronutrients was medium to high in studied area. Thus, soils of studied villages were found overall moderate in soil fertility. Therefore, better crop management practices and need based application of the micronutrients suggested to the farmers of for the enhancement of the productivity of the soils and.
