Abstract

A wheel operated boom sprayer developed was based on the principle of the eccentric mechanism for changing the rotational motion of the front wheel into the reciprocating motion of the pump. The main components of the sprayers were main frame, tank, bicycle wheel, boom stand, hose pipe, boom and nozzles. The development process began with a conceptual design based on a computer aided design (CAD) software. The length of the main frame was determined as 1090 mm with a height of 400 mm from the ground. The speed gear ratio of 2.5: 1 was set as corresponding to 18: 54 teeth on the gear and pinion respectively. In the sprayer three types of nozzles used were flat-fan, hollow cone and flood jet nozzle attached on the boom of three length viz., 100 mm, 150 mm and 200 mm. The height of the boom can be adjusted from the ground using the boom stand on which the boom is attached. The total length of boom was 1200 mm with the 100 mm interval.
