In-vitro efficacy of native plant growth promoting rhizobacterial isolates against various bacterial phytopathogens

Abstract

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) inhabit the rhizosphere region of plant and are beneficial for the development and growth of plants. In this study, twenty-six PGPR isolates were screened in-vitro against various bacterial phytopathogens in the Plant Bacteriological Laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal during 2021-22. Among the thirteen native Bacillus isolates, four isolates, BRB 42, BRB 56, PR 19, and SM 9, showed antagonistic activity against Ralstonia solanacearum and six isolates, BRB 88, BRB 42, BRB 56, BRB 74, PR 18, and SM 9, against Xanthomonas campestris pv. citri. Among the thirteen fluorescent pseudomonads, only one, GP8 showed antagonistic activity against R. solanacearum and X. campestris pv. citri. Native Bacillus isolates, BRB 56 and SM 9 and fluorescent pseudomonads isolate, GP8, showed the maximum inhibition zone against all the phytopathogens.
