The computer-aided design (CAD) model of the probe of the cone penetrometer was developed and imported to the ANSYS software. The probe was tested under the designed pressure with three different types of materials by applying the engineering properties of the material with defined boundary conditions to apprehend the structural stability and robustness before fabrication to save money and time. The total length of the probe was 650 mm with 30° cone angle and 20.27 base diameter as per ASABE Standards. The three different materials selected for the analysis were EN8, EN31, and Tungsten. The factor of safety for EN8, EN31, and Tungsten was found to be 5, 4, and 9, respectively. All the materials selected for the study passed the material selection criteria with a good factor of safety. However, EN8 was selected as per local availability and economic feasibility.
