Abstract

The present study focused on production response of chickpea with respect to weather and non-weather factors in Gujarat which undertaken to study the production response and price elasticity of chickpea crop in Gujarat. The study was based on time series secondary data on area form the year 1995–96 to 2021–22 for the districts viz., Junagadh, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Ahmedabad on production, weather and non-weather parameters. The Nerlovian Partial Adjustment Model (1956) was used to analyze the production response and result indicated that the regression coefficient of rainfall was found to be positive and significant in Junagadh (28.52) and Jamnagar (1.84) districts. During all over period, lagged price, rainfall, price risk and yield risk factors having major role in production response of chickpea. The majority of the components were discovered to be inelastic in the study’s findings regarding short-run and long-run elasticity. In terms of short run elasticity of rainfall were found to be positive and significant in Junagadh (2.02) and Jamnagar (2.55) districts. At that time long run elasticities of rainfall found to be elastic in every district except Ahmedabad district.
