Abstract

A study was conducted in Bhoranj and Barsar blocks of district Hamirpur of Himachal Pradesh during 2007–08 to assess the differences in self concept of only child and child with siblings. A total of 150 children (75 only child and 75 children with siblings) in the age group of 7–14 years were randomly selected for the study. Data were collected through selfstructured interview schedules for general information. Standardized scales were used for information related to self concept. Significant differences were observed between only child and child with sibling respondents in two areas of self-concept i.e., intellectual and school status and popularity, whereas in another areas difference was non-significant.
