The present study was carried out at the periphery of Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO), Jamshedpur, Jharkhand to assess the change of nutrient properties in slag after 12 years of plantation. Slag samples were collected from different corner of four different monoculture stands, viz. Acacia auriculiformis, Dalbergia sissoo, Leucaena leucocephala and Peltophorum pterocarpum and compared it with nutrient properties of pure slag. Tree species had no significant effect on pH and potassium availability of slag, whereas organic carbon and available nitrogen in soil increased significantly due to tree species. Similarly, availability of phosphorus had significant role after establishment of vegetation on slag. Thus, it is concluded that leguminous species played a significant role in increasing nutrient properties of slag.
