Abstract

Experiments were conducted during the year 2006–2007 at University of Guyana, Georgetown for production and comparison of vermicomposts from sugarcane bagasse and rice straw. The vermicomposts were assessed for nutrient value and effects on plant growth of Phaseolus vulgaris L. compared to cow dung and chemical fertilizer. Vermicompost showed better growth patterns and better fruit quality in Phaseolus vulgaris L. than chemical fertilizers and retained nutrients for longer period. There was significant improvement in soil quality with application of vermicompost.
