Selection parameters for seed yield and its components in linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.)

Selection parameters in linseed were studied in 45 F1s developed by 10 x 10 diallel mating design excluding reciprocals for 10 characters. A wide range of variability was observed. Capsules plant⁻¹ and seed yield plant⁻¹ showed high heritability with high genetic advance. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) estimates were also high for capsules plant⁻¹ and seed yield plant⁻¹. Primary branches plant⁻¹, secondary branches plant⁻¹, capsules plant⁻¹ and seeds capsule⁻¹ showed highly significant and positive association with seed yield. Capsules plant⁻¹, seeds capsule⁻¹ and 1000-seed weight had highly positive direct effect on seed yield. Thus, it is concluded that capsules plant⁻¹ and seeds capsule⁻¹ should be given due consideration during selection programme for higher seed yield of linseed.
