Abstract

Line × tester analysis involving 12 inbred lines and 5 testers and their F1 hybrids in baby corn was carried out in kharif 2010 to assess combining ability and heterosis for quality parameters (moisture, calcium, iron, phosphorus, total soluble sugars, crude fibre and dry ash contents) and baby corn yield. The inbred lines, BAUIM 4 and BQPM 2 and tester, BAUIM 2 were good general combiners for all the quality traits and baby corn yield. Single cross BQPM 2 × BAUIM 2 had positive specific combining ability effects for all the quality traits and baby corn yield with the highest estimates of standard heterosis.
