The burgeoning load of population and relatively fixed farming area require alternative and innovative ways to increase productivity; protect farm produce and quicker, easier and safer post harvest processing. One of such techniques may be the use of electromagnetic energy. The use of electromagnetic energy can be very effective, time saving and free from health hazards, if used in an intelligent way. Chemicals are widely used to kill insects in stored grain even though these affect the environment and the consumers. Use of electromagnetic energy in microwave region could be an alternative to chemical methods in future.
