Abstract

Four chemicals viz. carbosulfan, monocrotophos, trizophos, and phosalone at two concentrations (0.05% and 0.1%) were evaluated in pots and field experiments for their effectiveness against Meloidogyne incognita infecting okra during 2010–11. The seeds were soaked with the chemicals of the given concentrations. All the chemicals were effective in reducing nematode larvae penetration in root, egg mass, gall index and increasing yield of okra. Carbosulfan 25 EC 0.1% was the most effective treatment and registered 6.2 larvae plant−1 with no egg mass and gall index (1) after 15 days of inoculation, but the number increased significantly after 30 and 45 days of inoculation. Phosalone @ 0.05% was least effective in reducing gall index (3.0) and egg mass plant−1 (20.8) after 45 days soaking. In field condition, carbosulfan @ 0.1% was most effective followed by monocrotophos in reducing gall index and increasing yield of crop.
