Recently the Government of India has enacted the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) and introduced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS). It is the largest employment generating programme in the world which has moved a step towards generating the right of work in the country. A study was carried out in Milkipur block of Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh during 2010–11 to assess the benefits and constraints in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS). The opinion of MNREGS beneficiaries was recorded and ranking was given. Majority of the beneficiaries responded favourably about the MNREGS. Most of the respondents observed that 60: 40 wage: material are not maintained and opportunity is not given to more than one person in a family. In general, the programme helps the poorest of poor and they want to work under the scheme to have a social security.
