Prediction of milk production using artificial neural network

Abstract

Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is parallel computational models comprising of closely interconnected adaptive processing units and solve problem through input-output mapping. A multilayer feed forward neural network model with back propagation of error learning mechanism has been developed to predict the lifetime milk production of crossbred cattle using lactation yield, age at first calving, lactation length, calving interval, service period and dry period. It is found that ANN can be used as the alternative to the multiple linear regression model.
