A study was conducted during April to June 2014 at Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh), to determine the bacterial quality of raw milk as influenced by stages of lactation of crossbred cows. Ten healthy cows, free from all diseases and maintained under similar management conditions, were selected for the study. The results showed that the differences in standard plate count (SPC) of raw milk were significant but the differences in values of lactic acid bacterial count (LABC), lipolytic bacterial count (LBC) and proteolytic bacterial count (PBC) were non-significant. Therefore, the stages of lactation had insignificant effect on bacterial quality of raw milk of crossbred cows. Further, coliform was not present in any of the samples, which further confirms that the quality of raw milk was superior in crossbred cows.
