Abstract

Banana is one of the most popular fruit crops in Chhattisgarh. In Chhattisgarh state, the yield of banana crop is not up to the recommended level. The low level of yield is reflected due to the delay in adoption in banana cultivation, but even then no systematic efforts, have been made to assess the causes of low production of banana crop. Therefore, this study was designed to bring in light the causes responsible for low production due to non-adoption or delay in adoption of recommended banana production technology. The data were collected from 150 randomly selected banana growers of the Durg district of Chhattisgarh with the help of interview schedule. The results of the study revealed that education, land holding, annual income, credit acquisition, contact with extension agencies, social participation, irrigation method, sources of information, scientific orientation, and knowledge of the respondents increases then the adoption of the respondents correspondingly increase but when respondents engage in more than one occupation so adoption of respondents correspondingly decreases. The result of multiple regressions reveals that all the 13 independent variables jointly explained the variation to the extent of 79.71% in adoption of recommended banana production technology.
