Decision making pattern and empowerment of Tharu farm women in Uttarakhand

Women are the builder and moulder of the nation's destiny. Women empowerment is a process of awareness and capacity building leading to greater participation, to greater decision - making power and control and to transformative action. It is increasing self reliance of poor people and especially poor women. It means that the women live their own life in a way that they think appropriate on the basis of their condition of family circumstances, qualities and capabilities of which they themselves are the best judges. Present study was carried out in Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand, India. This paper is a study to discern the empowerment and decision making pattern of Tharu farm women. The outcome is derived from a structured interview schedule and data was analysed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and chi square method. The study has provided a help in understanding the level of empowerment and decision making pattern of tharu farm women and to find the association between both variables of respondents. In decision making pattern, Tharu farm women are good decision maker.
