Agroforestry provides the resilience to agricultural production under current climate variability as well as long-term climate change through intensification, diversification and buffering of trees in farming systems. The issues of climate change are being addressed through climate smart agriculture. It is also widely debated at present and there is a growing global recognition is needed for the transformation of agriculture. However, the absolute need to feed a population of over 9 billion by 2050 remains, and it is an important that the aspirations of climate smart agriculture to increase yields and food availability are not subjugated to climate priorities. Agroforestry can be an appropriate technology under the Indian situation where there is land scarcity, plenty of labour but less productive and scarce capital. Under such a situation, agroforestry has a very important place in the life of human beings, as it is directly related to the livelihood of inhabitants and also provides an important service of climate moderation.
