Bio-fertilizer from Household Wastes

Abstract

Green Revolution in India was mainly realised with the introduction of high-yielding varieties of various crops and by following intensive cultivation practices with the use of fertilisers, pesticides and other inputs. However, soon the adverse effects of chemical fertilisers and use of toxic pesticides were identified, the importance of the use of organic fertilisers was realised. A good quality bio-fertiliser may be obtained, by employing separation of biodegradable materials from the household wastes, its decomposition and composting. These different steps to procure high-quality bio-fertiliser have been reviewed.
