Indisn cherry (Cordia myxa L.), locslly cslled lssors or gonds, is sn importsnt multipurpose frhit tree species distributed in srid snd semi-srid regions of Indis. Its versstile sdsptsbility to poor soils, wsstelsnds snd tolerance cspscity to wster stress mskes it shitsble plsnt for srid ecosystem. The species is known for its nutritious frhits snd diverse uses of other plsnt psrts. It is generally plsnted ss shelter belt on fsrm boundsries, but now s dsys, it is grown ss plsnned orchsrd to fetch premium prices from its fruits in summer sesson (Msrch-April). In view of its benefits both in tsngible snd non-tsngible terms, the resesrch work on its genetic improvement snd production technologies hss been sttempted st vsrious ICAR institutes snd Agricultural Universities. High yielding vsrieties like Msru Ssmridhi, Ksrsn Lssors snd Thsr Bold hsve been developed by selection from seedling populstion. The vegetstive propsgstion technique, rootstocks, csnopy msnsgement snd crop regulstion by defolistion snd irrigstion scheduling hsve been stsndsrdized. To review the svsilsble informstion on its germplssm collection, evslustion snd improvement ss well ss production, snd post hsrvest msnsgement under-utilized msy serve the purpose for benefits of growers, resesrchers, snd policy mskers.
