Inheritance of hardseededness was studied in three crosses between hardseeded parent LM 51 as male and non-hardseeded lines, ML 1191, ML 1271 and VC 6370-30-65 as female parents. F1s in all the crosses were hardseeded. Goodness of fit test with chi-square confirmed 3:1 genetic ratio in F2 for hardseededness in all the three crosses and revealed monogenic dominant control of hardseededness. The segregation pattern of backcross of F1 hybrids with recessive parents (1 hardseeded: 1 non-hardseeded) in all the crosses confirmed the monogenic dominant control of hardseededness.
