Genetic Analysis of Hardseededness in Mungbean (Vigna Radiata L. Wilzeck)

Inheritance of hardseededness was studied in three crosses between hardseeded parent LM 51 as male and non-hardseeded lines, ML 1191, ML 1271 and VC 6370-30-65 as female parents. F₁s in all the crosses were hardseeded. Goodness of fit test with chi-square confirmed 3:1 genetic ratio in F₂ for hardseededness in all the three crosses and revealed monogenic dominant control of hardseededness. The segregation pattern of backcross of F₁ hybrids with recessive parents (1 hardseeded: 1 non-hardseeded) in all the crosses confirmed the monogenic dominant control of hardseededness.
