The present study was undertaken to assess the relative efficiency of different selection criteria for distinguishing genotypes performing well under stress and non-stress environments. The material comprised fifteen advanced breeding lines of tomato. Breeding lines were derived through pedigree selection from different segregating generations of intervarietal crosses. Selected lines were tested under both stress (high temperature) and non stress environments. Among the different stress related parameters, stress tolerance index was found to be the best parameter to distinguish the genotypes performing well under both non-stress and stress environments.
