Aromatic and Fine Grained Rice from Uttaranchal and Their Evaluation Under Mid Hill Condition

Seventy nine aromatic and fine grained rice accessions were collected through an exploration conducted in foot hills of Uttaranchal. These accessions were evaluated for identification of promising lines under mid hill condition. These were grouped into eight clusters on the basis of 13 characters using non hierarchical euclidean analysis. Clusters VII and VIII showed maximum inter-cluster distance. Therefore, hybridization between accessions of cluster VII and VIM may result in desirable recombinants for higher yield, earliness and minimum panicle sterility. Accession number IC 382607 (Ramajwain) was found best for all the agronomical traits except long slender grain. Therefore, crosses between accessions having long slender grain from clusters V and VI with IC 382607 (Ramajwain) are expected to give desirable recombinants.
