Screening of Barley (Hordeum Vulgare) Germplasm Against Corn Leaf Aphid, Rhopalosiphum Maidis (Fitch.)

Evolving of lines resistant to insect-pests is an important tool in integrated pest management system. In barley, corn leaf aphid Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch.) is the most important and ubiquitous in nature. Therefore, barley germplasm was screened to identify sources of resistance to corn leaf aphid. Though few entries showed moderately resistant behaviour but most of them were susceptible to corn leaf aphid. Not even a single genotype was found in resistant, highly resistant or immune category. So there is a further need to screen more genotypes of barley for aphid resistance.
