Recombinant inbred lines derived from a well adapted genotype WL 711 and a high protein line PH 132, had significant differences amongst themselves for grain yield, grain weight, test weight, ash content, grain hardness, sedimentation value and protein content. Sufficient variation was also observed for bread loaf volume along with dough handling attributes. Transgressive segregants have been observed for most of the traits and a good number of lines had favourable combination with much superior grain weight ranging from 5 to 25 percent, physico-chemical attributes, bread loaf volume and bread quality attributes, but yield better than or at par with PBW 343, a national check. Some of the desirable recombinant inbred lines T25, T88 T31 have high loaf volume, high protein content, and high grain weight and moderate to high grain yield. The present study has demonstrated that RILs with desirable yield and quality attributes can be developed by following appropriate selection scheme during segregating generations.
