Protein Content and Quality of Bread Wheat Grains as Affected by FYM and Nitrogen Management

Abstract

A replicated field trial at three levels of nitrogen, four times of application with and without the application of FYM was conducted for two years on a sandy loam soil, to study their effect on the protein content and quality in bread wheat grains. The protein content was significantly improved by the application of FYM, N level upto 150 kg ha’1 and application of N and FLE or EE stages. The functional quality of protein as indicated by the gluten content and SDS sedimentation values also improved owing to these treatments. In addition, the physical quality of the grains depicted by the grain weight, test weight, grain hardness and yellow berry content was also improved to some extent.
