Studies on Standardized Potence and Gene Action in Cauliflower

Abstract

The present investigations were conducted on 36 genotypes (8 inbred lines and their 28 F1 hybrids) of Indian cauliflower. Significant and desirable standardized potence was observed for all the eleven traits except for plant height. Low magnitude of average standardized potence for stalk length, number of leaves per plant, days to curd maturity and curd compactness index indicated the predominance of additive gene action whereas high magnitude for net curd weight could be due to over-dominance. The F1 hybrids exhibiting superior standardized potence for net curd weight had also shown superior heterobeltiosis and heterosis over top parent for the same trait.
