Evaluation of Different Genotypes Against Shoot Fly, Atherigona Naqvii Steyskal in Spring Sown Maize

Abstract

Maize hybrids, viz. PMH 1, Paras, PMH 2, JH 3459, Parkash, Sheetal, NK 6240 and 31-Y-45 were evaluated against shoot fly using fish meal technique during spring 2006. These hybrids were also tested for oviposition preference and damage potential by shoot fly. Results showed that genotypes PHM 1, JH 3459, Sheetal and NK 6240 were less susceptible to shoot fly and Parkash was the most susceptible. Among inbreds tested, CM 143 showed tolerance. JH 3980 was the least preferred genotype for oviposition. Plant height and grain yield were significantly reduced by 48.5 and 61.2 per cent, respectively in infested plants.
