Abstract

Environment and host genotype influence the legume-Rhizobium symbiosis in summer mungbean. The objectives of this study were to identify the breeding lines for higher plant height, nodule number and their weight, dry weight of root and shoot, leghaemoglobin content of nodules and grain yield in summer mungbean under field conditions. It has been observed that SML 742, SML 763 and VC 6369-30-65 ranked promising among the breeding lines with the greatest number of nodules and their dry weight, shoot dry weight and grain yield and showed improvement in these traits over the check variety SML 668. Nodule weight (fresh and dry) significantly correlated with grain yield. On the basis of path analysis, leghaemoglobin content, number of nodules and their weight (fresh and dry) are important yield contributing traits which should be kept in mind during selection for higher yield in mungbean
