Forty collections comprising of local landraces of Himachal Pradesh and germplasm procured from NBPGR, New Delhi, were evaluated to assess variability and character association in horsegram. Sufficient variability existed in the material under study. Leaf area, internode length, plant height, pods per plant and 100-seed weight exhibited high heritability coupled with high genetic advance. However, economic traits viz. seed yield per plant and biological yield per plant exhibited moderate heritability and genetic advance. Economic yield recorded strong positive association with biological yield per plant, fruiting nodes per plant, leaf area, 100 seed weight, plant height and internode length. Path analysis revealed importance of biological yield per plant, pods per plant, fruiting nodes per plant and 100-seed weight for indirect selection for seed yield in this crop.
