Abstract

Introgression for yield and its component traits was studied in the BC3F1 population derived from wild species Cajanus scarabaeoides and recommended cultivars AL 201 and AL15. Wide range for early, medium and late groups was observed for days to flower and days to maturity in both the crosses. Primary branches arised from lower nodes and number of fruiting branches were higher in both the backcross populations. Derived backcross populations showed superiority of 83.2 and 40.7 for number of pods per plant and 170 and 78.3 per cent for seed yield per plant over the parents AL 201 and AL 15, respectively. Correlation studies revealed that higher biomass, more number of pods per plant, primary and secondary branches showed significant positive correlation in the derived populations with seed yield.
