Plant regeneration method has been developed in strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch. cv. Chandler). Plant regeneration studies were carried out using leaf and petiole explants. The leaf explants showed high frequency of shoot regeneration as compared to petiole explants on modified Murashige and Skoog's medium (containing MS salts, B5 vitamins, 2% glucose) supplemented with 1.0 mg/l TDZ + 1mg/l BA + 0.5 mg/l IBA. Shoot multiplication and elongation occurred on medium containing MS salts, B5 vitamins, 2% glucose supplemented with 0.1mg/l BA, 0.05 mg/l Kn, 2.0 mg/l GA3. Root regeneration from in vitro developed shoots was obtained on MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/l IBA. The plantlets were able to regenerate within 8–10 weeks. The regenerated plantlets were acclimatized in pre-sterilized mixture of cocopeat. It has potential application in plant regeneration and genetic transformation of strawberry.
