Abstract

Two main sources of genetic male sterility available in Gossypium arboreum in India are DS 5 (Hisar source) and GAK 423(Akola source). Present investigation was carried out to determine if the genes governing male sterility in these systems were allelic or non-allelic. Both the GMS lines were crossed to a common tester LD 694. The resulting F1s were crossed with each other. All the 195 plants of the tri-parent hybrid were observed to bear male fertile flowers suggesting that genes conditioning male sterility in DS 5 and GAK 425 were non-allelic.
