This paper deals with the detailed study and analysis done to improve the transient performance of the transmission lines using problem solving techniques. Various data patterns are studied to converge on the most probable reasons for line tripping. Site observations, Tower footing impedance measurement results are correlated with the failure pattern. Finally, corrective actions are taken and considerable improvement in line availability is achieved.
