Abstract

The energy sources are getting depleted day by day. The need of energy conservation started as the OPEC countries increasing the energy prices suddenly in 1971. Due to the hike in the prices the world realized the need that if energy is not used wisely, life would become difficult. People used to abuse the energy and that is where sudden price rise in 1971 made them conscious on energy efficiency and energy conservation. When the term energy is used it may be in any form e.g. electricity, fuel, coal etc. More and more policy reforms started evolving to conserve the energy. This paper discusses about energy conservation need, energy audit and India's efforts for energy conservation by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Petroleum Conservation of Research Association (PCRA), GUVNL (earlier known as Gujarat Electricity Board).
