Augmented Operator Advisor based on Augmented Reality

Electrical system equipment of Transmission stations are designed to provide safe, efficient, and reliable power. However years of continued use and exposure to the environmental elements can adversely affect the equipment performance, which can result in unplanned outages and associated financial losses. To ensure reliability of these equipment periodic health check-ups and maintenance are mandatory. Augmented Operator Advisor (AOA) is a digital application developed to guide real time operations, monitor and record the parameters of all station equipment. This new digital application is the first of its kind in India being implemented and tested for 220 / 110kV EHV substations. This paper shares Tata Power’s experience of AOA based on Augmented Reality (AR) technology for condition monitoring of assets in Extra-High Voltage (EHV) electrical substations. It will also provide key in-sites of Tata Power implementation methodology and its experience in successful site implementations.
