Improvisation in Laying & Installation of HV/EHV Power Cables in Extreme Challenging Conditions

This paper aims to bring out our experiences in the laying & installation of HV power cables under extreme challenging conditions of refineries. Owing to stringent and complex requirements of HV cables in refineries, these cables are contemplated as the backbone for the electrical system of the plant. The project expectations and constraints were mainly the reliability of power transmission, the minimization of energy losses with anticipation of improvement in efficiency of cables and reduced power wastages along with lower maintenance cost. The project has been achieved through prudently laying of cables in the prepared trenches, ensuring proper alignment and avoiding any sharp bends or stress points. These capabilities ensured the strategic concentration on managing the transmission aspects within refinery projects.
