In recent times the design of substation has been evolving with respect to layout, configuration and level of automation involved. With the increasing awareness and need for smart-grid, it has further necessitated the evolution of digitalization of network. This paper elaborates the key design aspects associated with EHV/HV GIS substation design and its online condition monitoring system. It will also focus on digitalization of GIS substation in future with the implication of digital equipment's such as CT and CVT.
