Abstract

With the introduction to of high speed heavy haul freight trains and higher traffic density in DFCC projects, the power requirements on the electrified section are expected to increase considerably. The present power supply arrangement has the basic limitation.

In order meet the requirement in an economical manner it is that felt to change to 2 x 25 kV AT system which is used in number of advanced countries. Considering this DFCC projects basically five types of special transformers have been used.

  1. 60/84/100 MVA, 220/2x55 kV, 3/2 phase, Scott connected transformer.
  2. 60/84/100 MVA, 132/2x55 kV, 3/2 phase, Scott connected transformer.
  3. 8 MVA, 55/27.5 kV, Single phase transformer.
  4. 12.3 MVA, 55/27.5 kV, Single phase transformer
  5. 14.3 MVA, 55/27.5 kV, Single phase transformer

Prime Meiden Limited has recently successfully completed the manufacturing of 8 MVA, 12.3 MVA, 14.3 MVA, 100 MVA transformers for Indian Railways for DFCC (Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation) project.

This has made possible the manufacturing technology of traction transformers manufacturing technology available indigenously for railway’s application under ’Make in India’ project.
