Higher education, researches and role of the university

Higher education in India is undergoing a transfonnation. The reason for transfonnation is mainly due to the expansion of higher education in India and new demands on the system. Education has always considered as major instrument to achieve the objective of social, economic and political development of a nation. Higher education provides leadership by supplying a well developed human resource which ultimately takes the responsibility of operating the systematic developments in India. It is also rightly said that "Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought." Research plays a very important role in the modem educational development. Hence, this paper highlights the role of the universities in promoting researches in their affiliated colleges inAssam.
