Nanoclay polymer composites (NCPCs) based on cross linked polyacrylamide(PAM) and starch grafted polyacrylamide (St-PAM) were prepared with variable clay percentage (6%, 12%, 18% and 24% of monomer). The NCPCs were characterized by FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Increased clay doping above 18% in NCPCs resulted in incomplete dispersion and exfoliation of clay in polymer matrix. Clay doping above 18% did not further decreased the urea release from NCPCs. Both PAM and St-PAM based NCPCs had similar slow urea release property.
