<p>IPR arouses considerable interest in matters relating to intellectual property across a wide spectrum of society including academics, scientists and engineers, lawyers and attorneys, and the corporate. Recent example is the tussle between Bajaj Auto Ltd and TVS Motor Company for the infringement of IPR of digital twin spark (DTSi) technology. India has one of the most modern copyright protection laws in the world. Major development in the area of copyright during 1999 was the amendment to the Copyright Act of 1957 to make it fully compatible with the provisions of the TRIPS Agreement. The Copyright (Amendment) Act, 1999, came into force on 15 January 2000.</p><p>The understanding of IPR is also equally important for the LIS professionals, scholars and practicing librarians. In this context, <italic>DESIDOC Bulletin of Information Technology</italic> planned to bring out a Special Issue on IPR. The response from the authors—academicians, LIS professionals, lawyers, librarians, and LIS students—was stupendous. Since it was not possible to publish all the papers at a time, we decided to bring out the Special Issue on lPR in parts. Part I of the issue covered papers on IPR laws pertaining to confidential information related to defence; right to know and the copyright relevant for democratic functioning; fair use of copyright; protection of GI; and data exclusivity.</p><p>Part II of the Issue covers some aspects of IPR in the fields like agriculture, biotechnology, digital technology, etc. The first paper by Dr R. Kalpana Sastry discusses various conventions/treaties/agreements affecting agriculture innovation systems, and the legal mechanisms existing in India for such innovations. The second paper by Dr H.S. Siddamallaiah discusses issues pertaining to GI, IPR and related legal issues and the proactive approach required in dealing with these issues in consonance with the global developments. The third paper by Dr J.P. Singh discusses ownership issues of copyright, duration of protection, issues related to fair use, and copyright facilitators. The paper also discusses digital technologies and copyright as well as copyright protection technologies. The fourth paper by Dr Sujit Bhattacharya discusses the patentability of the biotechnological inventions and the international requirements and issues that emerge in addressing patenting of life forms and how they are resolved. It analyses the international patenting trends, patents that have significant impact and countries active in patenting. It also examines Indian patenting activity and its comparison with international trends to assess the Indian efforts. The fifth paper by Dr Tan Kar peng and Prof. Chennupati K. Ramaiah discusses security threats over Internet and awareness of cyber laws among young Singaporeans.</p></sec></body></article></article></body></html>
