The concept of stress encompasses social, psychological, and physiological dimensions, impacting individuals’ well-being and performance across various domains. Introduced by Dr. Hans Selye, stress was first used to describe the body’s response to traumatic events, evolving to encompass a wide range of psychological and physiological conditions, including anxiety, tension, and frustration. In sports, stress is particularly relevant as athletes face pressures to meet societal and personal expectations in competitive environments. Psychological stress manifests in both physical and behavioral symptoms, such as muscle tremors, erratic performance, and fatigue, affecting an athlete’s overall efficiency. This paper explores the psycho-dynamics of stress in sports, examining its influence on individual and team performance, interpersonal relationships, and skill acquisition. Coaches face challenges in managing stress levels to enhance athletic performance while avoiding negative impacts. Additionally, the study highlights the necessity of stress management techniques, like simulating competitive conditions and setting achievable goals, to help athletes develop resilience and sustain high performance. By understanding the interplay between psychological stress and physical demands, this research offers insights into optimizing training approaches to improve athletes’ coping mechanisms, ultimately promoting a balanced and productive response to competitive stressors.
