British Resident Jenkins’ Tenure in Nagpur

Bajirao II was defeated in the Battle of Khadki on 05 November 1817 and fled from Pune. Resident Jenkins understood this news. Resident Jenkins warned Appasaheb Bhoslay not to correspond and keep relations with Pune, but he ignored it and brought the robes of Senasaheb Subha from Bajirao. At that time, even though the Resident warned Appasaheb not to accept the clothes from the Bajirao-II, Appasaheb did not accept it. And Appasaheb accepted the clothes of Senasaheb Subha. This caused the relationship between Appasaheb and the Resident to deteriorate and the battle of Sitabardi took place. Appasaheb was defeated in this battle and Appasaheb surrendered. Then the Resident felt it dangerous to keep Appasaheb in Nagpur and then Appasaheb was sent to Allahabad but on dated 13th May, 1818, Appasaheb escaped from the custody of the British and took refuge with the King of Jodhpur and on 15 July 1840, Appasaheb died at Jodhpur.
